Common Steering Rack Faults
Leaks and seal wear
Fluid around the rack, gaiters or pipe connections can indicate seal deterioration, corrosion or internal wear.
Play, knocks or wandering
Free play, knocking, poor self-centring or vague steering requires the rack, mounts, joints and surrounding components to be assessed.
Uneven or heavy assistance
Heavy steering, uneven assistance, noise or judder can involve the rack, pump, fluid or contamination. Manual racks are assessed for wear, play and internal condition.
Our Repair and Reconditioning Process
1. Identify
We check the VIN, registration, build year, complete rack label, RHD specification and relevant option codes.
2. Assess and repair
The unit is inspected for wear, corrosion, contamination and damage before suitable repair or reconditioning is agreed.
3. Test and return
The completed rack is tested, prepared for refitting and supplied with the applicable Pro Power Steering warranty.
What to Send for Correct Identification
Send the registration, full VIN, model and build year, clear photographs of the entire rack label and all numbers, plus details of the symptoms, leaks, noises and any previous steering work. Never order from a shortened number alone.
