Ford Steering Rack, Pump & Steering Box Repair

Hydraulic and manual steering specialists — repair, reconditioning, sales, fitting and UK delivery.

Ford Hydraulic & Manual Steering Specialists

Pro Power Steering repairs, reconditions and supplies Ford hydraulic and manual steering racks, hydraulic power steering pumps and steering boxes for suitable cars, vans, commercial vehicles and classic models. Customers can bring a vehicle to our workshop, send an original unit for assessment or ask about buying a suitable reconditioned replacement.

This page is for conventional hydraulic and manual steering. Newer Ford vehicles that use an electric steering rack or electric steering column require different diagnosis and parts; visit our Ford electric power steering page for those applications.

Ford steering equipment varies by model, generation, production date, engine, drivetrain and wheelbase. We identify the original rack, pump or box before confirming repairability, exchange availability or price.

Ford Steering Racks, Pumps & Boxes for Sale

We do more than refurbish customers’ own units. Pro Power Steering also sells suitable reconditioned Ford steering racks, hydraulic pumps and steering boxes. Supply can be part-only, arranged with UK delivery or combined with workshop fitting.

Reconditioned racks

Hydraulic and manual Ford steering racks supplied subject to the correct original part number, rack dimensions and vehicle specification.

Power steering pumps

Hydraulic pumps assessed, reconditioned or supplied for suitable Ford applications after pulley, connection and pressure-system details are confirmed.

Steering boxes

Steering boxes for suitable Ford commercial, utility and classic applications, with repair or replacement options confirmed after identification.

Exchange units may require the old serviceable component to be returned. Call before removing or ordering a part so we can check stock, price and exchange terms.

Ford Cars, Vans & Classic Models We Support

Coverage depends on the steering system fitted rather than the badge alone. Typical enquiries include suitable versions from these Ford families:

Fiesta, Focus and Ka

Manual or hydraulic rack applications from relevant generations, including everyday cars and suitable sport derivatives.

Mondeo, Sierra and Granada

Hydraulic racks and pumps from suitable generations, identified from the vehicle and original component.

Transit and Tourneo

Racks, pumps and steering boxes for suitable vans and passenger derivatives, including different wheelbases and commercial specifications.

Ranger and utility vehicles

Hydraulic steering components for suitable pick-up and utility applications, subject to drivetrain and original-unit checks.

Escort, Capri and Cortina

Manual racks, hydraulic conversions and original steering components for suitable classic and enthusiast vehicles.

Mustang and performance cars

Conventional steering components for suitable generations. Electric-assisted models are handled through our separate Ford EPS service.

Important: one Ford model and year can use different steering units. The VIN, steering type and original part number should be checked before a replacement is ordered.

Hydraulic, Manual Rack, Pump & Box Services

Hydraulic steering racks

Assessment for fluid leaks, worn seals, corrosion, internal wear, damaged boots, play, stiffness and inconsistent assistance. Suitable units can be stripped, cleaned, measured, reconditioned and tested.

Manual steering racks

Inspection for excess play, worn bushes or guides, stiffness, damaged pinions and contaminated grease. Manual racks are assessed against the condition of the original casing and hard parts.

Hydraulic power steering pumps

Checks for noise, leakage, poor pressure, pulley or shaft wear and contamination. A failed pump should be considered alongside reservoir condition, hoses and the rest of the hydraulic circuit.

Steering boxes

Repair and reconditioning for suitable Ford steering boxes with leaks, play, stiffness or wear. Correct adjustment and original component condition are important.

Pipes, hoses and fluid contamination

Leaking or restricted pipes, ageing hoses, incorrect fluid and debris can damage a replacement unit. The whole system should be inspected and flushed where required.

Supply and fitting

Where suitable, we can supply and fit the replacement component, discuss wheel alignment and identify any related steering or suspension work.

Common Ford Steering Problems We Can Assess

  • Power steering fluid leaking from the rack, pump, pipes or steering box
  • Heavy steering, especially while parking or at low speed
  • Whining or groaning from a hydraulic pump
  • Steering assistance that changes as the vehicle warms up
  • Fluid foaming, contamination or repeated reservoir loss
  • Knocking, play or movement at the steering rack
  • Notchy, stiff or binding manual steering
  • Excess free play from a steering box
  • Uneven return-to-centre or poor steering feel
  • Damage following a collision, kerb impact or failed gaiter

Noise or heavy steering does not automatically prove that the rack or pump has failed. Tyres, suspension joints, top mounts, the steering column, fluid condition, pipe restrictions and alignment can create similar symptoms. A complete diagnosis helps prevent unnecessary replacement.

Ford Steering Repair FAQs

Can I buy a Ford steering rack, pump or box from you?

Yes. Suitable reconditioned units can be sold for part-only supply, UK delivery or workshop fitting, subject to identification, stock and any exchange conditions.

Can you repair my original Ford steering rack?

Suitable hydraulic and manual racks can be assessed for repair or reconditioning. The result depends on the condition of the casing, shaft, pinion and other hard parts.

Do you repair Ford power steering pumps?

We assess and recondition suitable hydraulic pumps and can discuss a replacement where available. The hydraulic circuit should also be checked for contamination or restrictions.

What if my Ford has electric power steering?

Electric racks and columns require different diagnostic and repair processes. Use our dedicated Ford EPS rack repair page.

Do I need wheel alignment after rack replacement?
